L’Observatoire - maison Grégoire and Bn PROJECTS are particularly happy to present [Atterrir], (i.e. [Landing]), a site-specific exhibition by Lucia BRU.
There are some researches which perfectly match the spirit and atmosphere of a given place : this is obviously the case with Lucia Bru @ Maison Grégoire. Lucia Bru is a sculptor, but a sculptor in the widest acception of the word : beyond the objectual result of her creative process, her work is very much about giving life to / making space and architecture breathe. She animates the void, makes it almost tangible, trespassing its immateriality.
Pure, concentrated, her work offers some resistance to the onlooker. In more than one way, it captivates. The creative gesture is precise, delicate simple, as are generally the forms she creates and the materials she uses (porcelain (which has been for years her favourite field of investigation), paper, plastic etc…
In the delicate discretion of the formal achievements, through the subtle, if somehow suspensive and always questioning, integration to architecture, as well as by means of a suggested instanteneous temporality brought about by a somehow precarious, fragile balance, there is a form of unescapably dialectical resiliency to them, which captivates the viewer.
Dialectical and complementary is the tension between an obvious fondess for geometrical forms and an aspiration to break this geometry, as if she were caressing the straight lines of the forms in an an attempt at making them vibrate.
Dialectical is also the tension existing between the regular occultation (through forms or display) and visibility, thereby somehow paradoxically strengthened. It is not a mere coincidence if Lucia often resorts to transparent or reflective materials, and to grid-like or perforated patterns.
This oscillation between this practice of occultation and the ensuing interstitial visibility is also manifest in her videos, a less-known side of her production. Two videos will be premiered for this show at Maison Grégoire.

L’ Observatoire - maison Grégoire et Bn PROJECTS sont particulièrement heureux de vous présenter [Atterrir], une exposition spécialement conçue par Lucia BRU pour l’espace de la maison Grégoire. Il est des recherches qui répondent et épousent parfaitement l’esprit d’un lieu. Ceci est particulièrement le cas avec Lucia Bru. Lucia sculpte, dans une acception large du terme. Au-delà de l’objet ou de l’installation sculpturaux, elle insuffle vie et corps à l’espace, l’architecture et, par là -même, au vide, à l’immatériel.
Epuré, concentré, son travail résiste et captive dans différentes acceptions du terme. Le geste est précis, délicat, simple comme le sont en général les formes qu’elle crée et les matériaux qu’elle affectionne, de la porcelaine (qui a été pendant de longues années l’un de ses supports de prédilection) au papier, en passant par le plastique.
Dans la concrétisation délicate et discrète des formes, dans leur intégration subtile et suspensive à l’architecture ainsi que dans l’idée d’instantanéité suggérée par un équilibre comme précaire, fugitif, voire instable, il y a une forme de résistance, de force dialectique, qui force et retient l’attention.
Dialectiques, complémentaires, sont une aspiration première à une certaine forme de géométrie jointe à la volonté évidente de casser cette géométrie, de caresser les lignes, en les faisant vibrer et respirer.
Dialectique est aussi la tension entre des gestes récurrents d’occultation par la forme et / ou le dispositif et le donner à voir, qui n’en devient que plus précieux. Ce n’est pas un hasard si Lucia recourt volontiers à des matériaux transparents, réfléchissants ou, a contrario, à des textures d’opacité et des motifs grillagés ou de perforation
Ce basculement entre moments d’occultation et de visibilité interstitiels confère également un relief tout particulier à son œuvre vidéo, un pan sans doute moins connu de sa recherche, dont nous présentons en avant-première deux réalisations récentes.

L’Observatoire - maison Grégoire en Bn PROJECTS zijn verheugd u [Atterrir],
(i.e. [Landing]) voor te stellen, een in-situ tentoonstellingsinstallatie door Lucia BRU.
Met enig voorafgaand onderzoek kan men perfect aan de sfeer van een bepaalde ruimte beantwoorden. Dit is zeer toepasselijk met Lucia Bru’s werk. Lucia Bru maakt sculpturen in de meest ruime betekenis : voorbij de creatie van een object gaat haar werk de ruimte, de gegeven architectuur, de immaterië le leegte nieuw leven inblazen.
Haar werk is uitgepuurd, geconcentreerd en verzet zich tegen de toeschouwer die eveneens wordt gevangen. Haar creatieve geste is precies, delicaat en simpel net zoals de vormentaal en de materialen die ze hanteert. Waaronder porselein (sinds jaren haar favoriete onderzoeksveld) alsook papier, plastic enz.
De verwezenlijking van de vormen is discreet en delicaat, hun subtiele integratie in de architectuur alsmede het idee van het kortstondige suggereert een onzeker evenwicht, een vluchtigheid, een balans die als onstabiel wordt voorgesteld. Er is een vorm van verzet, een dialectische kracht, die de aandacht van de bezoeker dwingt en trekt.
De spanningen tussen de vormen is dialectisch en complementair. Haar voorkeur voor geometrische figuren is duidelijk zichtbaar alsook haar trachten deze geometrie te doorbreken. Alsof ze de rechte lijnen, door ze te strelen laat vibreren.
Dialectisch is ook de spanning die aanwezig is tussen de verschillende overlappingen, zowel vormelijk als door de manier van presenteren en hun zichtbaarheid. Ze laten zien maken ze paradoxaal genoeg nog waardevoller.
Het is geen toeval dat Lucia Bru vaak gebruik maakt van transparante en reflecterende materialen of juist integendeel een beroep doet, op bepaalde lichtondoorlatende materialen met texturen, in traliemotief of met perforaties.
De schommeling tussen de praktijk van verduistering om vervolgens het tussenliggende zicht te tonen is ook duidelijk in haar videowerk aanwezig, een minder gekend facet uit haar oeuvre. Hiervan gaan tijdens deze expo twee nieuwe video’s in avant-première in Maison Grégoire.
