Bn PROJECTS & Maison Grégoire sont très heureux de vous convier à Pale, Havoc, une exposition spécialement conçue par Aline Bouvy et Simon Davenport pour l’espace de la Maison Grégoire.
Le titre et le ton crépusculaire donné au projet comme à son carton d’invitation suggèrent d’emblée une prise à rebours de l’architecture moderniste de Van de Velde entièrement dédiée à la circulation de la lumière et d’une vie solaire.
A l’encontre de nombreux projets développés ces dernières années qui ont joué la carte de l’intégration à la poly-fonctionnalité de l’espace domestique que reste la Maison Grégoire, l’un des points de départ de cette exposition aura été celui de développer la carte de l’intrusion et ce, à plusieurs égards : Une intrusion formelle d’abord, par la plasticité et le volume encombrants de certaines propositions, mais aussi un envahissement symbolique. Car l’idée première était en effet d’encombrer l’espace d’exposition, l’espace intime et domestique de la demeure par des éléments sculpturaux symboliques de l’espace urbain, public et extérieur, à savoir notamment des sculptures automobiles stylisées.
A cet élément s’est greffée l’idée d’un envahissement se matérialisant ici sous la forme des reliefs en jesmonite noire qui scandent l’espace architectural comme autant de spectres d’une intimité envahissante, comme enchâssés dans ses murs, rendant bien compte de la fascination de Bouvy pour l’élément intime.
Partageant avec Bouvy le sens d’une stylisation médiatisée où la présence abstraite et totémique de l’humain n’est jamais éloignée de son vocabulaire plastique éclectique, Simon Davenport s’est concentré sur une propositions ré-articulant le lien de la Maison avec son environnement immédiat, id est son jardin.
Tout se passe comme si l’espace domestique de la Maison Grégoire se trouvait donc investi, infiltré par des éléments exogènes, exprimant des dimensions d’intériorité et extériorité dans une porosité éclectique de registres et langages esthétiques et disciplinaires propres aux recherches tant d’Aline Bouvy que de Simon Davenport.
Au final, il s’agissait pour eux de créer un continuum narratif et esthétique, faisant feu de tous bois, matériaux et technique et faisant fi de toute forme de cloisonnement et de hiérarchie esthétique ou symbolique, bousculant quelque peu, en les renversant et les questionnant, les paradigmes de la quiétude et la sérénité lumineuses de l’architecture de Van De Velde.

Bn PROJECTS & Maison Grégoire are very happy to invite you to the opening of Pale, Havoc, an exhibition specially conceived by Aline Bouvy and Simon Davenport for the space of Maison Grégoire.
The title, alongside the crepuscular mood pervading both the invitation card as well as the artworks, directly suggest a sort of implicit contrast with the modernist architecture by Van de Velde, articulated around a circulation of light and life.
Unlike number of recent projects organized for and at Maison Grégoire these past years, this exhibition does not play the card of the «  integration  ». Quite on the contrary, one of the starting points of the project was precisely t elicit a feeling of intrusion in the poly-functional and domestic space which is Maison Grégoire.
At different levels.
At a formal level first, through the invasion of the house and of its garden by cumbersome formal elements, and then on a symbolic and metaphoric level as well.
For the sculptural elements conceived by Bouvy & Davenport obviously belong to the realm of public space and stand in sheer contrast with the intimacy of the domestic context.
A further element of intrusion is brought about by further sculptural elements such as e.g. jesmonite low reliefs, which seem to emerge from the walls in the guise of spectral apparitions, conveying Bouvy’s fascination for a disturbing intimacy.
Sharing with Aline Bouvy the sense of a stylised and eclectic formal vocabulary, where the very abstract and quasi-totemic presence or suggestion of the human body is often implicit, Simon Davenport also focussed on a sculptural element which fundamentally re-articulates the link of the architecture with its immediate surroundings, that is the garden.
All in all, the red thread through the exhibition may be precisely this oppressive presence of exogenous, alien forms throughout the domestic space of Maison Grégoire, expressing an infiltration from both the inside and from the outside world, much in line with a conceptual and formal understanding of the idea of porosity of frontiers and limits, whichever these may apply to.
This is also where the narrative and aesthetic continuum created by Bouvy & Davenport, informed by the eclectic plastic vocabulary typical of their individual practices, manages to challenge and disrupt, if in a temporary way, the usual atmosphere of harmony, serenity and quietness which Maison Grégoire usually offers to his visitors.
