B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN for NUIT BLANCHE and Brussels Citizens University (www.bcu2010.be)

`

Once upon a time, there was a postal code, B-1010. This postcode was reserved for the former Administrative Centre of the Belgian Federal State, la Cité Administrative/ Het Rijksadministratief Centrum. As these buildings were sold and are now private property, B-1010 is vacant. It is also a binary, symmetrical and highly symbolic postal code that follows immediately after B-1000 for Brussels-City and is therefore the second postal code in the country.
B-1010, a postal code open to unlimited possibilities.

We naturally suggested that it should become the postal code for
be-DIX_TIEN, the imaginary XXth borough of Brussels, an open virtual space situated beyond the divisions, all the divisions, whether they be cultural, linguistic, social, economic, territorial or ideological…

For Brussels is made up of its inhabitants and exists for all of them, from all their different origins, but also for all those Belgians, Europeans (and beyond) who are able to project themselves onto it as a federating space where people can come together, a place of openness and dialogue.

In this sense, B-1010 represents a project which brings out all the potential of the City and of our Region-Capital. And 2010 is a crucial year for the project : for beyond the simple numeric coincidence, 2010 is also the year when Belgium is at the helm of the European Union. B-1010 instrinsic stakes of inclusiveness and decompartmentalisation are all the more to the point.

This is why we decided, on the next edition of Nuit Blanche (2 October 2010) to launch a new series of artistic postcards : 8 cards (7 new by Lucia BRU, Jean-Philippe CONVERT, John CORNU, Agnès GEOFFRAY, Cédric NOEL, Walter SWENNEN, Koen WASTIJN and a re-edition by DENICOLAI & PROVOOST) will be premiered and and available at Nuit Blanche’s info point andll in a selection of partners of the event (De Markten / Beursschouwburg, La Bellone / Bronks / Micro Marché / Passa Porta / Rits café / Monk / Cyclo asbl / Les halles St Géry...) as well as at Brussels Citizens University (www.bcu2010.be). These cards will be as from mid-October spread in the public space, and will be available in a selection of cultural institutions in the country (see www.b-1010.be) along with, within the European Parliament, at the info point of the Brussels-Europe Liaison Office.

All this prior to the exhibition and the launch, on 9 december 2010 @ Passa Porta, of the final B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN editorial project. Printed in a limited edition of 1010, this book, along with all the artists’ postcards relased until now, will present texts and essays presenting the history and the stakes of the project.
