Launch of the B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN edition
2 décembre 2010

B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN

A postal code for the citizens

Once upon a time, there was a postal code, B-1010.This postcode was reserved for the former Administrative Centre of the Belgian Federal State, la Cité Administrative/ Het Rijksadministratief Centrum. As these buildings were sold and are now private property, B-1010 is vacant. It is also a binary, symmetrical and highly symbolic postal code that follows immediately after B-1000 for Brussels-City and is therefore the second postal code in the country.
B-1010, a postal code open to unlimited possibilities.

Our proposal is that it should become the postal code for
be-DIX_TIEN, an imaginary 20th borough of Brussels, an open virtual space situated beyond the divisions, all the divisions, whether they be cultural, linguistic, social, economic, territorial or ideological…

For Brussels is made up of its inhabitants and exists for all of them, from all their different origins, but also for all those Belgians, Europeans (and beyond) who are able to project themselves onto it as a federating space where people can come together, a place of openness and dialogue.

In this sense, B-1010 represents a project which brings out all the potential of the City and of our Region-Capital. And 2010 is a crucial year for the project : for beyond the simple numeric coincidence, 2010, in the context we all now, is also the year when Belgium is at the helm of the European Union. B-1010 intrinsic stakes of openness, inclusiveness and decompartmentalisation are all the more to the point.

To mark all this, we have decided to organise this exhibition, coupled with the launch on 9 December 2010, 7p.m. of the final and comprehensive B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN book.

Since 2006, the year when B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN was first launched, invitations have indeed been made to artists to react to the stakes of the project by submitting, according to the « postal » origin of the concept, proposals in the form of visuals for postcards.
Some of these cards were distributed in the public space, in different waves, often on the collaborative occasion of urban festivities (BRXLBRAVO 2009, Nuit Blanche 2010…).
You can discover a selection of them right here.

Published in an edition of 1010, the book, (available inside Passa Porta’s bookshop as from 10 December) gathers, along with new, unpublished ones, all the existing B-1010, be-DIX_TIEN proposals :
